Canucks ask the Maple Leafs for permission to talk with Shane Doan
Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet: Sources have said that the Vancouver Canucks have asked the Toronto Maple Leafs for permission to talk with special advisor to the GM, Shane Doan. It’s not known what position the Canucks are pondering with Doan.
Iain MacIntyre: “Re @FriedgeHNIC report Canucks have asked Leafs permission to talk to special advisor Shane Doan, Jim Rutherford has left open possibility he could leave as president soon after hiring latest GM. Canucks could also be looking beyond GM role as they interview candidates.”
Two of the finalists for the Maple Leafs GM positions are…
Frank Seravalli: Sources say two candidates who’re finalists for the Toronto Maple Leafs GM position are Boston Bruins assistant GM Evan Gold, and Recent York Rangers assistant GM Ryan Martin. There’s likely a 3rd, or more, candidate who can have a second in-person interview this week.

Chris Pronger didn’t interview for the Maple Leafs GM position
First Up: Chris Pronger, when asked about his speculation involving the Toronto Maple Leafs and a possible position inside management.

Host: “There are a whole lot of Toronto Maple Leaf fans, Chris, take heed to this show and consider you have got earned a glance as potentially the following general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs. There’s a whole lot of rumors occurring about your involvement with interviews and such.”
Pronger: “There’s a whole lot of rumors.”
Host: “What, what are you able to tell us that’s occurring with this?”
Pronger: “Lots of rumors.”
Host: “Are you able to give us a break ing latest?”
Pronger: “Lots of rumors. Yeah, there’s a whole lot of rumors on the market.
No, I’m, I’m within the media such as you guys. I’m taken with seeing how this all plays out too. You already know, there’s some vicious rumors on the market that said I interviewed for the GM job. I didn’t interview for that role.”
Host: “Okay, put that to bed then. Was that something you desired to do and weren’t in a position to do?”

Pronger: “Not necessarily. You already know, I believe I’m excited with this next chapter. And you already know, as I’ve said quite a few times, I’m open to having a conversation and seeing what a possibility might seem like. You already know, whether it’s a fit for me, whether it’s fit for for the the opposite side, and sometimes it’s, sometimes it isn’t, sometimes the timing’s not right, and sometimes the chance doesn’t fit what you’re on the lookout for at any given time.”
