The Mammoth have pending UFAs in Ian Cole, Alexander Kerfoot, Kevin Rooney, Kevin Stenlund, Vitek Vanecek and Kailer Yamamoto. They’ll need to search out some veteran depth pieces on team-friendly contracts.
They may also inject some more youth if top prospects Tij Iginla and Caleb Desnoyers are able to make the jump to the NHL. Each are 19 and convey offense. Iginla had 41-goals and 90 points within the WHL, and Desnoyers had 78 points in 45 games.
Evgeni Malkin is okay with playing elsewhere next season if the Pittsburgh Penguins don’t want him back
Shelly Anderson of Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Evgeni Malkin has repeatedly said that he desires to be back with the Pittsburgh Penguins and retire as a Penguin, however it’s not only as much as him.
When asked if the Penguins don’t need to re-sign him, would he play for an additional team? Malkin responded with a “Yes.”
Malkin was to speak with GM Kyle Dubas on Friday, and there shall be more talks between Dubas and Malkin’s agent JP Barry. He desires to play another season within the NHL.
“I would like to play within the NHL obviously, but I comprehend it’s difficult for Kyle. Possibly he wants recent blood here. I understand it’s a business. I understand he wants perhaps a brand new team, see recent faces here. For me, I would like to play another yr within the NHL. I’m not looking (to go) back to KHL, play in Russia. But when not Pittsburgh, I hope some (NHL) team.”

Malkin showed this season that he still has game, after putting up 19 goals and 61 points in 59 games. He moved from center to wing because the season progressed.
