The Indian Premier League (IPL) provides an enormous platform for emerging players to showcase their skills, impress selectors, and earn maiden call-ups to the national team as well. Punjab Kings batter Suryansh Shedge, who scored a priceless 57 for PBKS after a top-order collapse and helped the team post 163/9 against Gujarat Titans on Sunday, was asked about his personal ‘race’ as a middle-order batter as well. Shedge, nonetheless, insisted that he isn’t focused on the ‘race’.
“It’s not a race, sir. It’s not a race. We’re here to win the trophy. I have a look at it from that perspective. That’s the very last thing on my mind, progressing in cricket. I just want to provide my 100% for the team. So I don’t have a look at it from that perspective, sir,” he said.
Notably, it was only the second match for Shedge within the IPL this season. When he was asked concerning the wait for a chance, he shared that conversations with coach Ricky Ponting and captain Shreyas Iyer kept him focused.
“I’ve been talking to Ricky Sir lots” – Suryansh Shedge
“I’ve been talking to Ricky Sir lots. I’ve been talking to our captain lots because I do know him. So the one thing they tell me is each time the chance knocks, you will have to be ready and take it with each arms. In order that’s what I attempted to do. Since I used to be young, I’ve at all times enjoyed having a challenge,” he stated.
“And if I can recall clearly, this season while playing domestic cricket, I feel I’ve gotten my team out of trouble as well within the U23s and another tournaments. So I at all times prefer it; I feel I thrive in it. And going forward, I can’t anticipate which situation I’m thrown into. I can just be ready for the whole lot. And that’s how I try to arrange. I attempt to put myself into different scenarios,” Suryansh Shedge concluded.
