Dharma Productions and Prithviraj Productions are coming together to provide Odiyan: The Age of Illusion, a sweeping epic rooted within the folklore and cultural mythology of Nineteenth-century Kerala. Produced by Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, and Supriya Menon, and directed by Rahul Sadasivan (Bhoothakaalam, Bramayugam, Diés Irae), the film stars Manju Warrier and Prithviraj Sukumaran. It marks Dharma Productions’ first Malayalam production, a major first for one in all India’s most storied film houses.
About Odiyan: The Age Of Illusion
Sharing the poster on their Instagram, Dharma Productions simply captioned it, “A battle between truth and illusion unfurls soon. Presenting Odiyan – The Age Of Illusion.”
At core, Odiyan: The Age of Illusion is a couple of terrifying shape-shifter from Kerala legend, whose fury descends on a robust matriarchal household, setting off a battle between truth and illusion that crackles with myth, menace and psychological weight. Rahul Sadasivan, who has built probably the most distinctive bodies of labor in Indian cinema through his singular command of Kerala’s folklore and atmosphere, takes on his most ambitious project yet.
Karan Johar: Odiyan: The Age Of Illusion Is The Kind Of Film That Deserves The Biggest Possible Canvas
Karan Johar, Producer, Dharma Productions, said, “I even have been an awesome admirer of Malayalam cinema for a very long time, and have at all times desired to be a part of that world. The craft, the courage, the way in which its filmmakers trust their audiences – it’s something I even have watched with real awe. When this story got here to us, with Rahul’s vision and Prithviraj on the helm, it felt like exactly the fitting moment. Odiyan: The Age of Illusion is the type of film that deserves the largest possible canvas, and I’m glad we get to provide it just that.”
Apoorva Mehta, CEO, Dharma Productions, said, “Malayalam cinema represents every part we respect in storytelling, fearless creative ambition, deep cultural rootedness, and a reference to audiences that’s genuinely earned. For Dharma, foraying into Malayalam cinema is a natural and exciting expansion, the industry has the talent, the audiences, and the storytelling muscle that make it a market we absolutely wish to be in. Collaborating with Prithviraj Productions and Rahul Sadasivan on Odiyan: The Age of Illusion is a proud moment for us, and one which signals exactly where we’re headed.”
Prithviraj Sukumaran: The Odiyan Is Not Just A Myth, It’s A Piece Of Kerala’s Identity
Prithviraj Sukumaran, Actor & Producer, Prithviraj Productions, said, “The Odiyan just isn’t only a myth, it’s a chunk of Kerala’s identity, a legend that has travelled through generations and continues to carry a robust place in our cultural consciousness. Bringing this story to the screen in a way that honours its mythology and the culture it comes from, has been a pursuit very near my heart. Having Dharma Productions come on board as our partner brings together two shared visions and I’m excited to see the way it takes shape.”
Supriya Menon, Director of Prithviraj Productions, said, “As an organization that’s been consistently attempting to improve Malayalam cinema, where storytelling is championed by its audience and work on different genres – we’re glad to welcome Dharma Productions into the disruptive world of Malayalam cinema. We hope to proceed our efforts with Odiyan to bring world class cinema to screens of Malayalam and offer our audience an awesome viewing experience.”
Rahul Sadasivan, Film Director, said, “Folklore has at all times been a robust source of fear since it exists within the space between memory, belief, and imagination. With Odiyan: The Age of Illusion, I desired to revisit one in all Kerala’s most enduring legends and convey it to life through a cinematic language rooted in atmosphere, mystery, and emotion. After the love and recognition audiences gave my previous movies, this project represents a chance to inform a story on a much larger canvas while staying true to the themes which have at all times interested me. I’m excited to collaborate with Dharma Productions and Prithviraj Productions in bringing this vision to life.”
Odiyan: The Age of Illusion is coming soon to cinemas.
