Within the immediate aftermath of Sunday’s fights, fans called out Ciryl Gane hitting Pereira at the back of the top multiple times when attempting to secure the finish.

Through the video on his YouTube channel, ‘Suga’ revealed some insight into what happened backstage when running through every bout on the cardboard.

O’Malley highlighted that Alex Pereira specifically had a conversation with the referee about shots landing to the back of the top before this became a talking point in his loss to Ciryl Gane.

“In the foundations meeting when Pereira was talking to the ref, they were having the translator go over back of the top,” he said.

O’Malley referenced Gane’s win over Junior dos Santos that led to similar comments about illegal fouls when confirming that that is what Pereira was talking to the referee about.

“Yeah, that’s why they were talking about back of the top.”

The previous UFC bantamweight’s coach also noticed something price highlighting when seeing ‘Poatan’ prepare for his heavyweight debut.

Tim Welch recalled that Pereira was warming up for around three hours, but didn’t have someone that would replicate Gane’s stance with him.

“Pereira wasn’t sparring or he didn’t have any southpaw partners,” Welch said. “He’s sparring all orthodox guys. He’s got all orthodox guys in his corner.”
