CM Punk’s run in AEW stays one of the vital heavily debated chapters of his profession, and now Matt Hardy has weighed in along with his perspective on the dynamic between Punk and AEW President Tony Khan.
Speaking on a recent edition of his “The Extreme Lifetime of Matt Hardy” podcast, Matt Hardy reflected on Punk’s time in AEW and suggested that the previous World Champion quickly realized the quantity of influence he carried inside the company. In keeping with Hardy, Punk understood the position he was in and wasn’t afraid to make use of that leverage when vital. He said,
“I feel like when Punk was in AEW, he knew he had a hold on Tony Khan to a level, that he could type of get away with what he wanted. If he had something he was dead set on wanting to do, that he could type of flex his muscles and he could get away with it. I feel he could sniff that out of Tony, from Tony not being around and running a wrestling company for a long time or years, whatever.”
“I feel when he got here back to WWE, I feel he knew he couldn’t get away with that very same form of attitude or mentality. It’s what it’s. He got here back there and quite a lot of people thought he was going to fire up some type of controversy or conflict, and he didn’t. He was a by-the-book guy, and it gave the look of he was a model company worker. I feel it’s hard to dispute that.”
