Teams are occupied with Sabres defenseman Bowen Byram
Darren Dreger: There are multiple teams talking to the Buffalo Sabres about defenseman Bowen Byram. He one 12 months left on his contract and can be a pending UFA after next season. With agent Darren Ferris’ history of taking his clients to free agency, there’s some motivation for the Sabres to maneuver him.
- Marco D’Amico: “This either ends in an enormous payday for Bowen Byram on July 1st, or a trade to a destination of alternative where he would likely extend long-term and be a top-pair D. Can be surprising to see a club pay an enormous trade haul for less than one guaranteed 12 months.”

What the Toronto Maple Leafs Would Want in Return for Matthew Knies Is …
Seravalli: “This has nothing to do with money.”
Buccigross: “Okay.”
Seravalli: “Has nothing to do with place. Bowen Byram likes Buffalo. He likes his teammates. He likes the trajectory of the Sabres. This has every little thing to do with opportunity and a continuing challenge, as I understand it, that exists inside Bowen Byron.
He sees himself as a primary defenseman within the NHL. And watching him in these playoffs, it’s hard to argue that that’s not the case. So, in case you consider where he’s been in his profession, an early Stanley Cup winner, he, regardless of what, he was all the time going to be behind Cale Makar in Colorado.
It’s that Bowen Byram is a believer in himself, and he’s got this drumbeat that claims, ‘I might be that guy.’ And I believe he can. Other teams think he can. Now it’s about attending to a spot where he can actually get the chance to prove it, and there’s plenty of teams that may like to search out out if a 21, 25 12 months old who can play on either side of the blue line can do this for his or her team and be their primary.”
Buccigross: “Absolutely, the list is so long. Again, a dynamic player, an excellent age to get the max starting next 12 months, which could be seven years for him if he stays with that team that he’s on, and I’m sure they’ll finagle it, so it’s a seven-year deal. Like I said, around 10, I believe that’s the place to begin for him. We’ll see what he does this 12 months.
NHL Rumors: Buffalo Sabres, and the St. Louis Blues
But yeah, I mean, whether it’s, you understand, Kyle Dubas in Pittsburgh. Or whether it’s, you understand, the Recent York Rangers. Whether it’s, prefer it’s there’s every kind of those, and again, you don’t know where he, does he wish to play out west? That it may very well be somewhere on the market as well. Does he wish to play in Canada? Like, There’s definitely, it’s the Toronto Maple Leafs may very well be, like wherever it’s, like he, he’s going to be very talked-about, very talked-about.”
