Rob Van Dam – ‘ECW Stars Were Grouped By Their Drug Of Alternative’

Rob Van Dam has opened up in regards to the backstage culture in ECW, revealing that many wrestlers naturally split into different groups after shows based on their preferred way of partying.

During a recent Q&A session on his YouTube channel, Van Dam was asked which ECW stars were known for living the party lifestyle. In line with the WWE Hall of Famer, the reply depended entirely on which type of party someone desired to attend. He said,

“It is determined by which party you desired to go to. Within the ECW days, the boys were just about segregated by drug of alternative. That’s the way it was. After the matches, there was a room for the boys that prefer to do coke, and boom, it’d be those boys. They’d be there hanging out. Same guys on a regular basis. One other room for the fellows that prefer to do weed, and that will be where you’d see me each time. That’s my f*****g clique.”

Van Dam went on to elucidate that there have been also wrestlers who preferred drinking, while he gravitated toward the more laid-back crowd. He said,

“There’d be the drinkers, which can be on the bar until the bar closed after which attempting to sneak out five beers in his pockets to take it to the room or whatever. That’s the way it was. The pot-smoking clique is, let’s say, the more mellow people. So in case you’re too life within the party, then you recognize you’re within the mistaken room.”

When asked who else was a part of the marijuana-smoking group besides himself and Sabu, Van Dam named referee John “Pee Wee” Moore, Tracy Smothers, Little Guido (Nunzio), and Mustafa of The Gangstas. He added that The Sandman didn’t follow only one crowd, describing him as “like a chameleon who would make his rounds in any respect the clubs.”
