CCTV showed what gave the impression to be a suspect dropping off bags shortly before the blast at around 10pm on Monday. The backpack was believed to have been stuffed with nuts and bolts.

French news outlet Le Figaro claimed the attack can have been meant more as a ‘warning’ than a deliberate murder attempt.

Silvano Ippolito, who lives across from the constructing where the explosion happened, described seeing a bit of boy on the bottom being seen to by other people after hearing the blast.

He then called his wife, a physician, who provided first aid to the lady.

‘She intervened in a short time, before the emergency services arrived, to use tourniquets and perform mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, as the lady was losing consciousness,’ Ippolito said.

A person got here out of the constructing covered in blood and staggering, he said, and as he tried to go down the steps, the staircase collapsed.

The person then fell on Ippolito’s wife and a firefighter, he said.
