Actor Sumona Chakravarti recently took to Instagram to share a private health update, revealing that she underwent surgery for endometriosis. The experience has profoundly shifted her perspective on how she approaches social media. She expressed her desire to foster a community of “like-minded people” and emphasised her wish to maintain her personal life private. Sumona mentioned that she had been “living under a rock for the last two months” before resurfacing to share her journey. She first revealed her Stage IV endometriosis diagnosis in 2021.
Sumona Chakravarti Undergoes Surgery For Endometriosis
Openly discussing her health, Sumona explained how her condition had worsened despite years of management, leading her to come to a decision it was time to take motion. She also shared how this ordeal has reshaped her outlook and her intention to make use of her voice and social media platform to construct a supportive space for “like-minded humans, especially women.” In her Instagram post, she wrote, “Comfortable to resurface after an extended time. I’ve been living under a rock for the last two months.”
“On 4th May, I underwent surgery for the excision of my endometriosis, which had unfortunately progressed massively despite me attempting to manage it for years,” she added. She shared that she has spent the past two months “healing physically and mentally” and now feels “truthfully, thoroughly.” She credited her doctor and team for her recovery.
Sumona also reflected on her internal struggle with social media, revealing that she had desired to be energetic on WhatsApp and Instagram but realised it wasn’t practical. “In any case, I’m not retiring to the mountains just yet. I even have work, family, friends, and life,” she said.
A Shift In Social Media Use And Community Constructing
She expressed her desire to alter how she interacts online, moving away from chasing likes, comments, and followers. As a substitute, her focus is on making a community of “like-minded humans, especially women,” where open conversations can occur around health—each physical and mental—perimenopause, endometriosis, wellness, travel, books, plants, food, pets, and lifestyle selections like being single or a part of a DINK (double income, no kids) couple.
Addressing Objectification And Unwanted Comments
In her post, Sumona also addressed the inappropriate comments she has encountered over time, lots of which were from men. She shared that she’s come across trolls who body-shamed or made perverted remarks. She identified that “good folks” tend to have interaction privately—reading, liking, and sometimes messaging her—then moving on.
“So, what’s the answer? Yes, I’m an actor. A female one. I’ll attract a certain gentry. It comes with the territory. I’m going to proceed working and acting till my very last breath,” she affirmed. While she intends to maintain her personal life private, she hopes sharing her battle with endometriosis might encourage or help others facing similar struggles.
Embracing Age, Scars And Growth
Having turned 38 in June, Sumona reflected on how the love and well-wishes she received despite her social media break reminded her that Instagram isn’t the last word measure of affection, relationships, or remembrance. She shared that she is now more focused on living her life fully. “Post-surgery, I now have three visible scars on my abdomen,” she mentioned, unsure if they’ll ever fade. Yet, she sees them as symbols of a life lived fully.
“Scars and memories are proof of a life lived,” she said proudly. At 38, she’s realising that ageing isn’t something to fear. It’s a privilege—bringing wisdom, perspective, gratitude, and, yes, scars along the best way.
Sumona concluded by emphasising that her Instagram account will proceed to reflect her authentic self—sharing work, workouts, and moments from her life. She also shared that she travelled to Istanbul on a last-minute birthday trip, calling it a spontaneous adventure.
