Watch Dustin Poirier discuss his recent arrest
Dustin Poirier discussed his relationship together with his father during a recent appearance on The Diary Of A CEO podcast.
‘The Diamond’ revealed that his dad is an alcoholic who’s currently homeless as a consequence of his addiction.
“He’s ruined his marriages, he’s ruined his relationships, he’s ruined his friendships, he’s ruined his relationships together with his family, together with his kids,” Poirier said.
“My little brother is on and off talking to him, but he has two kids that don’t speak to him in any respect and won’t.
“You realize, he’s been in jail loads of times for alcohol-related stuff. If I can paint an image of what you’re thinking that of a classic drunk or alcoholic. Very selfish and continues to return to it. He’s actually homeless without delay.”
Poirier went on to elucidate that considering of his father’s living situation played a component in his arrest on June 21.
The 37-year-old made the error of turning to alcohol when feelings of depression got the higher of him.
“A part of that, me getting in trouble on the airport. It’s not my weight to hold, but I attempted to assist him out, and he’s back out on the road,” Poirier added. “It’s like he almost doesn’t want help, you understand?
“On Father’s Day, I used to be traveling to work, and I just couldn’t stop fascinated by my father. After which I began drinking within the airport, and that’s sort of what led to the incident.
“I’ve been going to therapy and stuff like that. Years ago, I began going to therapy, and after I began feeling higher, I finished practicing every little thing I learned. Then I felt that feeling again, I suppose you can call it depression. I just didn’t feel well.
“After I feel like that, I do know I shouldn’t drink, and I drank anyway. Not that my father or anything is an excuse, obviously I did what I did, but I knew higher within the moment.
“Alcohol has never benefited me, especially in times like that where I’m mentally not the perfect.”
