Earlier this week after England qualified for the Round of 16 with a nervy 2-1 win over the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ryan Garcia took to social media to goad Frank Warren with a bet. The legendary promoter had been celebrating England’s victory, and Garcia offered a friendly wager.

“Hey frank we don’t speak much but when you need a bet for Sunday let me know,” Garcia wrote. “MEXICO ALL THE WAY.” Warren loved the concept, responding: “Hey Champ, I like a bet. Let’s speak later and set the terms. It’s coming home.”

After Warren confirmed his interest again in a later tweet, Garcia tweeted this morning: “Game day Frank Warren. What’s the official wager? VIVA MEXICO.” The promoter replied: “Big day Ryan! $100k, winner picks the charity. Come on England.”

When the sport was over, Garcia tweeted “Congrats England. Fair play see you in September.” After replying to a fan who demanded that he pay Warren by insisting that he’ll, he added: “I’ll proudly hold that L.”

Warren then suggested two charities to whom Garcia could donate; Boxwise and Debra. “Great match @RyanGarcia,” he wrote, alongside links to the organizations. “Two exciting and excellent teams. Viva Mexico. Viva England. There’s a few sensible UK charities I’m involved with.”
