Recent details have emerged regarding Sheamus’ departure from WWE, including backstage support for the veteran star and speculation about where he could find yourself next.
As we previously reported here on eWn, Sheamus recently exited WWE after declining a restructured contract that was offered while he was sidelined with an injury. In response to a report from WrestleVotes Radio, at the very least one high-ranking WWE office executive advocated on Sheamus’ behalf during discussions with WWE’s parent company, TKO.
The report also states that a source near Sheamus believes the previous WWE Champion can be open to working for AEW, even when it were only on a short-term basis.
That possibility comes as Bryan Alvarez recently noted on Wrestling Observer Live that not everyone inside AEW is keen about bringing in additional former WWE names. Some people in the corporate were already hesitant in regards to the potential additions of The Recent Day (Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods), and that sentiment could extend to Sheamus as well.
Sheamus’ WWE exit reportedly stemmed from the corporate presenting him with a restructured contract while he was recovering from injury. Moderately than accept the revised deal, the 48-year-old opted to part ways with the promotion.
His final WWE match took place on the November 17 episode of Monday Night RAW, where he teamed with John Cena and Rey Mysterio to defeat Dominik Mysterio, Finn Bálor, and JD McDonagh of The Judgment Day. The bout also marked Cena’s final appearance as an in-ring competitor on Raw.
