Terrance McKinney needed to be resuscitated twice at the back of an ambulance before turning his life around

In 2015, cops in Washington Spokane found Terrance McKinney covered in blood after he’d fallen through a window after consuming various drugs.

The people he had been with called the police, with the present UFC fighter being transported to the hospital.

He was resuscitated twice throughout the ambulance trip after his heartbeat stopped.

It has been said that McKinney was experiencing “excited delirium”, a diagnosis that’s defined by a potentially fatal stage of distress and aggression that is usually linked to drug use, though many beat back on this concept completely.

He previously told BBC Sport that the officers used a Taser on him after he yelled “I’m so powerful” at them and recalls “seeing demons”.

“I wasn’t sure what happened,” McKinney said. “It felt like I used to be waking up from a dream.”

McKinney would go on to avoid facing any criminal charges and joined the Youth Police Initiative programme, which involves him using his experiences to warn others.

A return to varsity ended when he decided to pursue a profession in MMA, having made his amateur debut only one 12 months on from his ambulance ride.

McKinney turned pro in 2017, debuting contained in the UFC Octagon in 2021 after constructing a 10-3 record.

He’s since gone 8-5 within the Octagon and holds the record for the fastest average fight time in UFC history at just two minutes and 16 seconds.
