The Winnipeg Jets ended up with the eighth pick within the 2026 NHL Draft. The Jets used that selection on Viggo Bjorck out of Sweden. Bjorck spent the 2025-26 campaign playing for Djurgårdens IF of the SHL in Sweden.
Now, Bjorck has made a choice about his future, based on a post from Djurgårdens IF on X, formerly Twitter.
“Viggo Björck leaves Djurgården. We wish Viggo the most effective of luck in his latest club and respect his decision, though we’d have loved to see him in Djurgården for another season, says sports director Marcus Due-Boje,” the post read, translated from Swedish.
Bjorck played in 42 games for Djurgården, scoring six goals with nine assists. He also played in three games within the playoffs, finding the back of the web once with two helpers. He also played within the IIHF World Junior Championship for Sweden, lighting the lamp 3 times with six assists. It was possible for Bjorck to return to the SHL for an additional season before making his technique to North America. As a substitute, he’ll now have the opportunity to sign his entry-level contract with the Jets and push for a spot on the opening night roster.
If Bjorck doesn’t make the opening-night roster, he could pivot and return to Sweden on loan from the Jets.
Bjork was seen as a top prospect within the NHL Draft, but there have been some concerns about his size, based on Steven Ellis of Every day Faceoff.
“Björck definitely lacks the scale teams crave in a middle,” Ellis wrote. “But that hasn’t slowed him down – he’s absolutely fearless… It’s like watching a younger Zach Benson. Björck’s shot is incredibly deceptive, especially on the facility play. He doesn’t provide you with much to work with should you’re a goalie – and it’s because he doesn’t must. Quick, accurate and all the time in a dangerous spot.”
The Jets will open training camp on September 17, likely with Bjorck in attendance.
