Charles Oliveira highlighted how Ian Machado Garry’s mindset makes him difficult to beat.

Islam Makhachev submitted Oliveira in 2022 to start his lightweight title reign in emphatic fashion.

Oliveira never got a rematch resulting from him suffering an injury just weeks out from their scheduled second encounter before his former opponent moved to welterweight.

The Russian changing divisions has now brought him into contact with Ian Machado Garry, who can have ‘Do Bronx’ in his corner for the largest fight of their profession up to now.

Charles Oliveira highlights Ian Machado Garry’s ability to not stray from game plans ahead of UFC 330

When Ian Machado Garry was beaten by Shavkat Rakhmonov in his one UFC loss, he had Charles Oliveira in his corner.

The 2 men have developed a robust relationship for the reason that Irish welterweight made the choice to coach in Brazil at the enduring Chute Boxe Academy.

With lots of knowledge of each halves of the upcoming welterweight title fight that can headline UFC 330, Oliveira was recently asked to share some thoughts on the matchup.

He explained in an interview with UFC on Paramount+ why he believes his teammate can end the winning streak of Islam Makhachev and pull off an upset.

“He’s a man that puts that game plan right under his arms and just sticks to it and that’s the rationale why I consider in him,” Oliveira said via a translator. “He’s a man that just never detours from the plan. He goes and follows the strategy and is a man that that you must listen to.

“Have a look at what he’s done with these recent opponents. He’s been in a position to beat them at his game and impose his rhythm so I do consider he has a likelihood to do this.”

As Oliveira said, this strength of Machado Garry has shown itself in loads of his fights.

The Irishman has remained disciplined and continued to make use of his footwork and striking at range to select opponents off and frustrate them without offering them a way into the fight.

This has led to the title challenger receiving some criticism from fans previously when his fights don’t make for essentially the most exciting watches.

Nonetheless, if that approach is what sees him defeat the highest pound-for-pound fighter in the game, it can be very hard to argue with.
