India veteran Rohit Sharma got here up with a surprising fielding effort throughout the series-deciding ODI against England at Lord’s, London, on Sunday, July 19. The 39-year-old earned loud applause from the gang after pulling off an excellent diving stop near the boundary.
The moment got here on the opening delivery of the forty third over when Joe Root drove Arshdeep Singh’s back-of-a-length delivery through the off side. The ball looked destined to achieve the boundary, but Rohit sprinted across and produced a full-length dive to chop it off, saving two helpful runs for India.

England posted 387/3 in 50 overs after opting to bat first. Ben Duckett top-scored with 141 off 135 balls, while Jacob Bethell made 91 off 93. Joe Root remained unbeaten on 74 off 48, and Jos Buttler scored an unbeaten 41 off 13 balls. Prasidh Krishna took two wickets for India, while Prince Yadav claimed one.
Rohit Sharma’s Retirement Buzz Gains Attention During Series Finale At Lord’s
Rohit Sharma has faced increased scrutiny after failing to make a big impact within the series to date. The previous India captain has scored 11 and 26 within the two matches on the tour. Before the third ODI, a report by The Indian Express suggested that the Lord’s clash could potentially be his last appearance for India.
Nevertheless, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia dismissed the speculation, stating that the match wouldn’t mark the tip of Rohit’s ODI profession. Chatting with PTI, as quoted by NDTV Sports, he said:
“There are lot of speculations happening in media about Rohit Sharma’s future. I need to firmly assert that there was no such discussion that Rohit shall be playing his last match at Lord’s on Sunday.”
“Rohit is a daily member of the Indian ODI team and he’ll proceed to represent the country so long as he’s within the scheme of things. In other words, Lord’s ODI won’t be his last match.”
India face a frightening challenge as they appear to chase down an enormous goal. A successful chase would grow to be the second-highest run chase in ODI history for the Men in Blue.
