A newly released behind-the-scenes segment from WWE: Unreal Season 3 has pulled back the curtain on a key creative debate surrounding the futures of two of NXT’s biggest stars, Oba Femi and Trick Williams.
The Netflix series shows WWE’s creative team weighing whether the pair should remain in NXT for further development or make the jump to the principal roster sooner slightly than later. The discussion highlighted the balance WWE tries to strike between giving talent more seasoning and taking calculated risks on future stars.
Through the meeting, Bruce Prichard stressed that fans often expect call-ups to be fully polished from day one, something he believes isn’t at all times realistic. In his head, that was the case with Trick Williams and Oba Femi. He said,
“Now we have to be patient too, so far as after they come up. They’re not going to be f**king ready after they come up. NXT — we’ve gotta’ take a look at our resources there, pull some people up that is probably not ready, get them up here, get them began, break some f**king eggs, and let’s figure it out.”
Triple H then shifted the conversation to Oba Femi, explaining why he believed the powerhouse was ready for the following step. He said,
“There’s a component of me that thinks you do something with Oba here, then he debuts big within the Rumble, and we just get him cooking. He’s a sponge. Great attitude. To make him a main-event, box-office attraction, he must be a nasty motherf****r.”
The WWE Chief Content Officer also likened Femi to “the can’t-miss quarterback coming out of the system,” expressing his belief that the previous NXT standout had all of the tools to change into a significant attraction.
Triple H expressed an analogous opinion when discussing Trick Williams, arguing that the previous NXT World Champion had reached the purpose where continued time within the developmental brand would now not help his growth. He said,
“He’s done every little thing he can possibly do in NXT. He’s not gonna’ get any higher down there. If anything, he might regress. He needs to come back up here and work with individuals who have more experience. I feel we’ve gotta’ pull the trigger on any person, and why not try it with him?”
