Shreyas Iyer credited VVS Laxman for his beneficial guidance, while the previous India batter praised the skipper’s confidence and leadership because the duo reflected on India’s 3-0 T20I series sweep over Zimbabwe in Harare.
Despite missing several senior players, including Sanju Samson, Axar Patel, Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana, the young Indian side outplayed Zimbabwe throughout the series, capping it off with a 35-run victory within the third and final T20I on Sunday.
In a video shared by the BCCI from the dressing room, Laxman spoke highly of Iyer’s fearless approach and robust mindset as captain.
“I would love to specially congratulate Shreyas because he had a rough begin to his captaincy profession but the way in which he got here back, right from the primary day when he joined us someday before the primary game, he was very optimistic,” Laxman said referring to the 0-4 loss to England earlier this month, which was Iyer’s first as India’s T20 captain.
“It’s a brand new group of players. We all know that only 4 or five of those that were there in England joined us on this tour. But he was so confident and a number of credit for this victory ought to be given to the captain, the way in which he encouraged each one in all you,” he added.

Shreyas Iyer also expressed his gratitude to VVS Laxman, who served because the interim head coach within the absence of Gautam Gambhir. Gambhir was given a brief break following India’s demanding tour of the UK and is predicted to return for the Test series against Sri Lanka in August.
“I believe we were flawless, truthfully speaking, throughout the series barring the catches that we dropped. It was an exceptional effort by everyone within the team, including the support staff.”
