UFC star storms the cage with Georges St-Pierre’s coach to confront fighter who submitted teammate

Aiemann and Firas Zahabi weren’t blissful during a recent regional event.

Loads of UFC stars have been caught up in altercations and controversies at events away from their promotion prior to now.

UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland stormed the cage and punched a fighter who beat his teammate at Tuff-N-Uff 145 13 months ago. Eight years earlier at Bellator 187, Conor McGregor rushed to confront referee Marc Goddard after his training partner’s buzzer-beating knockout.

On Friday night, it was the turn of UFC bantamweight contender Zahabi and his brother.

On an evening that saw Usman Nurmagomedov knock out Archie Colgan and Dakota Ditcheva have her hand raised at PFL Recent York, motion was also happening in ‘The Great White North’.

Samourai MMA 20 took place on the Casino De Montreal in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The event was headlined by undefeated fighters Camillo Avellan and Martin Leon.

Amongst those on the undercard was Leo Bonin. He shared the cage with Harda Karim, who trains under Georges St-Pierre’s legendary coach Firas Zahabi.

Bonin submitted the Tristar Gym prospect with a rear-naked choke in the ultimate minute of the three-round bout, but that was not where the fighting stopped.

Coach Zahabi stormed the cage and confronted Bonin, going brow to brow with the victorious fighter before staff separated the pair.

Commentating on the event was Firas’ brother, Aiemann. The UFC bantamweight contender left his cageside seat to enter the cage and attempted to start out his own altercation with Bonin.

While security worked to maintain Bonin and the Zahabis separated, a member of the fighter’s team appeared to throw a punch or slap at one other cornerman.

In a post on social media after the win, Bonin suggested his pre-fight trash talk had sparked the engagement. He also claimed that Firas said, “I’ll meet you and your dad within the parking zone,” throughout the confrontation.

Aiemann was knocked out by Sean O’Malley on the UFC Freedom 250 card in his last fight. That result ended his seven-fight winning streak and surge toward a possible title shot at 135 kilos.

It stays to be seen whether the commission that oversaw Friday’s Samourai MMA event shall be taking any disciplinary motion for the near-brawl.
