Roger Gorayeb knows that his comeback within the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) might be difficult, to say the least, as he tries to construct a competitive Capital1 squad three weeks before the Power Spikers plunge into motion.
“We don’t need luck here—what I would like to do is a miracle since the season will start in only just a few weeks,” Gorayeb said as Capital1 announced its entry to the PVL on Thursday. “We are going to begin to train next week, so we are going to just have two weeks to practice.
“This is large for me, but all the pieces is a challenge for me.”
With Capital1 racing against time to construct a competitive team, Gorayeb opted to decide on experienced players from a two-day tryout like Aiko Urdas, Jorelle Singh, Rovie Instrella, Heather Guino-o, and Jannine Navarro.
Gorayeb, who last called the shots for PLDT within the bubble season in 2021, has yet to call the opposite players for his final list from the 23 he to this point has.
“We’re really running out of time so I selected players with experience [playing professionally], those whom I’ve seen play before,” Gorayeb went on. “Because they may lean on my experience, I’ll lean also on their experience quite than simply me feeling it out.
“In three weeks’ time, I would like to mold them so my training program for them won’t be for the long run. The preparation might be a brief one, so our communication might be easy because they already know what I need them to do,” Gorayeb said.
Gorayeb has around 40 years of coaching experience from successful collegiate teams to the defunct Shakey’s V-League where he won a complete of nine championships, something which he hopes to use to leading the brand new team.
“For now, I don’t need to think in regards to the next yr, as much as possible, I would really like to focus what’s in front of us. I don’t want us to land at the underside,” he added.
“I cannot promise that we might be an incredible team immediately. We’ll do it slowly,” he said when asked of expectations of their first conference.
