Purchasing a 1.4 per cent stake within the club, Sheeran could have long-term use of an executive box at Portman Road.

Nevertheless he is not going to join the board of the club with the arrangement described as ‘a passive and minority investment only’.

It’s an exciting time for Ipswich as they prepare for all times back within the Premier League and Sheeran celebrated his investment within the only way that he knows how.

Just hours after Ipswich confirmed his recent involvement within the club, Sheeran appeared on stage with Taylor Swift during her ERAS tour at Wembley Stadium.

A detailed friend of Swift, Sheeran performed alongside the worldwide superstar to perform three songs in front of a sell-out crowd on the 90,000-seater stadium.

Speaking after his minority stake in Ipswich was announced, Sheeran said: “I’m really excited to have bought a small percentage of my hometown football club.

“It’s any football fan’s dream to be an owner of the club they support, and I feel so grateful for this chance.

“I even have lived in Suffolk since I used to be three years old and, while I travel the world and sometimes feel like an outsider in big cities, Suffolk and Ipswich have all the time made me feel a part of the community and guarded.

“It’s such a joy to be a fan of Ipswich Town. There are ups and downs but football is all about taking the highs and the lows. I’m not a voting shareholder or a board member, that is just me putting some money into the club I like and them returning the gesture, so please don’t get onto me with signing suggestions or tactics to play!

“I’m excited for the Premier League to start out this weekend. Let’s go!”

Ipswich’s chairman added: “That is an incredibly proud day for the Football club.

“The support Ed and his team have shown us during the last three years has been nothing wanting remarkable and for him to make this investment within the Club appears like the natural progression in our relationship.

“For considered one of the most important artists on this planet to provide us a lot of his time and provides the Club such incredible exposure around the globe, while asking for little or no in return, highlights just what makes this relationship such a special one.

Kieran McKenna reacts to signing a brand new contract at Ipswich Town until 2028 ahead of their return to the Premier League after interest from Manchester United and Chelsea

“It’s been a pleasure to get to know Ed and his team during the last three years and we stay up for constructing our relationship further now because the Club enters the Premier League.”

It’s an exciting time for the Tractor Boys with a loan deal for Man City star Kalvin Phillips near being accomplished.

Ipswich get their Premier League return underway on Saturday lunchtime once they face Liverpool at Portman Road – a clash that’s exclusively live to tell the tale talkSPORT.
