Parenting Influencer Kelly Hopton-Jones opened up concerning the traumatizing experience of by chance running over her young son Henry along with her automotive.
“I can’t even let my brain fully go to how different this case might be right away,” Hopton-Jones, 36, shared via Instagram on Wednesday, April 15. “It’s really easy to begin questioning all the things.”
Hopton-Jones is a registered nurse practitioner who continuously shares parenting advice on her Hillside Farmhouse blog. She shares two children along with her husband, Brian Hopton-Jones.
In a shocking Instagram post, Kelly recalled how her son’s life was put in jeopardy throughout the “blink of a watch.”
“Today has been the worst day of our lives,” she admitted. “Life can change within the literal blink of a watch. A real nightmare for a parent happened to us today.”
Kelly explained that it “began like several normal day” when she took her daughter Lily to get donuts before her dance practice.
“Brian was staying home with Henry and was going to fulfill us there,” she wrote. “He helped Lily into the automotive and was waving goodbye between our automotive and Henry, who was within the garage. In a matter of seconds, our son was run over by our automotive. I used to be driving.”
She went on, “Our neighbors stepped in immediately and took Lily, and we rushed to the emergency room.”
Luckily, Kelly confirmed that X-rays and CT scans showed no sign of injuries to Henry’s “organs or spinal cord,” together with his legs, chest and neck all “normal” as well.
“Neurological exam has been reassuring with no signs of head injury or impairment,” she noted. “He does have fractures to his pelvis that may take time to heal, in addition to just a few abrasions. What stays with me is the doctor saying: ‘He’s hurt, but that is something he can recuperate from.’ A real miracle.”
She added, “We’re in shock. We’re so sad. But we’re so incredibly grateful. … I do know this has modified us.”
Kelly encouraged her followers to “hold or hold hands with young children around vehicles” and “don’t assume they know or will stay where you last saw them.”
The parenting influencer shared photos of Henry recovering in his hospital bed together with a shot of her holding her son’s heavily bandaged arm.
Kelly felt consumed with how the situation can have unfolded in another way if “the morning had looked different.”

“If B had gone to work like he normally would have, each kids would have been safely of their automotive seats. Why weren’t we holding him. Why didn’t I double check before pulling out,” she asked. “We could drive ourselves crazy with the what ifs, and truthfully, we’re a little bit bit. But accidents occur.”
Kelly concluded, “I keep coming back to what I’d tell my very own kids someday if this happened to them. It might be loads kinder than the things we’re telling ourselves right away. Accidents occur, and the one mistakes are those we don’t learn from. We’re on the lucky side of a really tragic accident.”
The family received numerous support from their followers, with one person noting, “Thanks for sharing this. Accidents occur and also you deserve compassion and I hope that’s all you’re receiving. If not-sending love your way.”
“Sending you a lot love!!! How terrifying! So sorry this happened,” one other follower replied, with a 3rd writing, “My heart hurts in your mama heart so joyful sweet Henry will make a full recovery.”
Influencer Emilie Kiser — who lost her own young son Trigg in a May 2025 drowning incident — consoled Hopton-Joneses by sharing that she was “so incredibly sorry.”
