MANILA, Philippines–Leonard Grospe delivered the Philippines’ second gold medal within the sixth Asian Beach Games after topping the lads’s high jump competition on Friday at Phoenix Island in Sanya, China.
The 24-year-old cleared 2.05 meters on his first try to secure the title in a decent contest, outlasting Chinese Taipei’s Po-Ting Yeh and China’s Hao Zhang, who settled for silver and bronze.

“Very pleased. It was unexpected since it was really slippery,” said Grospe.
“It’s my first time competing here and likewise my first time doing high jump on the beach, so we were still adjusting since the surface was very slippery.”
Grospe’s victory got here a day after Alexandria Luz Enriquez won gold in jiu-jitsu, adding to the Philippines’ early medal haul in Sanya.
