Guns ‘n Goblins Looks to Be Our Next Roguelite Obsession

Should you couldn’t already tell by what number of roguelites we’ve been reviewing currently, we love the genre. Between Megabonk, Ball x Pit, and Monsters are Coming! Rock & Road, roguelites have collectively eaten up tons of of hours of my time over the previous couple of months. And that’s not even mentioning Hades II. I loved them a lot that I even made one in all my very own with Higher Luck Next Run. So when a brand new one crosses my desk, it normally gets my attention, and today’s Guns ‘n Goblins reveal is not any exception.

Guns ‘n Goblins is an incremental horde-based survivor FPS in development for PC, from a collaboration between French indie studios Lance and SoulGame. SoulGame is the team behind 2024’s Minishoot’ Adventures, so there’s some real indie pedigree here. The concept is simple: you’re the last Bell Ringer, and each night, waves of monsters wash over the land. Way back, a king constructed the Bell Bastions to attract these hordes away from the defenseless, but that kingdom has since fallen to wreck. One Bastion still stands, and you’ve got to defend it.

The core loop has players blowing up 1000’s of monsters on screen directly, ringing the bell to summon much more onto the sphere, and upgrading from an easy gun to devastating weapons able to taking down dragons. Each run grants everlasting progression, meta upgrades, and a forged of what the team describes as “colourful and shady characters” to assist improve your bastion. SoulGame co-founder and game designer Séverin Larose said the project began with an easy query: “why isn’t there an incremental FPS built around massive hordes to destroy?” The team desired to render 1000’s of monsters on screen concurrently, which is the type of technical ambition that tends to make or break a survivor-like.

No release date has been shared yet, but Guns ‘n Goblins is on Steam now with a teaser trailer available. Should you’re a fan of survivor-likes in search of something with a bit more shooting, control this one.
