The previous UFC bantamweight champion has been amongst those helping Gina Carano prepare for her comeback.

Carano will likely be returning to mixed martial arts after 17 years away from the game on May 16 at Inglewood’s Intuit Dome.

Within the principal event of the very first MMA card to air on Netflix, Carano will fight fellow pioneer Ronda Rousey, who will likely be competing for the primary time since 2016.

Merab Dvalishvili says Gina Carano will make UFC fighters and judo ‘look bad’ against Ronda Rousey

Carano has been training under coach John Wood on the Syndicate MMA gym in Las Vegas ahead of her comeback.

Wood has been a distinguished a part of Dvalishvili’s corner in recent times, helping the Georgian during his record-breaking title reign at 135 kilos in 2025.

Before gearing up for Dvalishvili’s expected trilogy against Petr Yan later this 12 months, Wood has been preparing Carano for her showdown with Rousey.

‘The Machine’ has been amongst those aiding the 44-year-old, and having seen her training firsthand, Dvalishvili is confident that Carano can have her hand raised on May 16.

“It was an incredible honor for me to coach together with her,” Dvalishvili said on The Ariel Helwani Show. “I used to be surprised, good surprised, at how good she is.

“Ronda Rousey has a judo background. I actually have also a judo background. But I feel Gina Carano will win this fight, knowing how good she is.

“I’ve never seen her fight before, but once I’m training together with her, I’m so impressed,” he continued. “She is the true deal. I feel she will beat Ronda Rousey.

“She goes to make UFC fighters look bad, and she or he goes to make judo also look bad. But I feel she goes to win.”

Rousey vs Carano will headline the Netflix event, which was put together by Jake Paul’s Most Priceless Promotions and in addition features returns for Francis Ngannou and Nate Diaz.
