Gujarat Titans batter Jos Buttler credited captain Shubman Gill for organising the chase with an aggressive approach within the Power-play as they beat the defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by 4 wickets comfortably. Chasing a goal of 156, the Gujarat Titans chased on the back of Gill’s 43 off 18 balls to seal a four-wicket win in 15.5 overs as well. Buttler himself scored a quickfire 39 off 19 deliveries as well.
“A extremely good batting surface. I believe the bowlers deserve loads of credit there. And one in all the largest differences for us was taking our catches today,” Buttler said after the match. “With the brand new ball, it did dip around a bit. There was a bit in it. Some improbable bowlers on show. Siraj and Rabada have been great for us and clearly within the opposition as well,” he added.
Jos Buttler also shared that GT planned to disrupt the rhythm of the opposition pace bowlers, a technique executed perfectly by Shubman Gill in the facility play as well.
“Shubman talked about attempting to put them off their lengths because they’re such good bowlers. So credit to him for going and doing that. When your leader goes on the market and does exactly what he spoke about, so calmly, so clinically, against top bowlers, it gives loads of confidence and breaks the back of the chase very early,” he further added.
“I got a bit greedy there” – Jos Buttler on his dismissal
Reflecting on his own dismissal at a very important time within the chase, Jos Buttler stated that he took a risk that didn’t repay as he got clean bowled as well.
“I got a bit greedy there. I had an enormous gap at mid-wicket and tried to show that, but it surely was a pleasant piece of bowling from Bhuvi,” he said.
Jos Buttler also opined on the importance of the win because the tournament enters an important phase now as well. With this win, the Gujarat Titans are placed within the standings with 10 points in five matches as well. They’ll next play against the Punjab Kings on May 3.
“Massive two points for us. We’re in that scenario where we’d like to carry on to those guys ahead of us, and we play loads of them as well. So it’s an enormous time within the tournament and a extremely essential win today,” Jos Buttler concluded.
