Alexander Volkanovski believes his teammate must have won via submission.

The featherweight champion was within the corner of bantamweight prospect Colby Thicknesse at Saturday’s UFC Perth most important event.

‘Slickness’ was among the many Australian fighters having their hand raised on home soil, as he edged out a detailed decision victory over Vince Morales on the RAC Arena.

Volkanovski, nevertheless, seemingly thinks his teammate was robbed of a finish.

Vince Morales responds to assert he tapped out against Alexander Volkanovski’s teammate

Thicknesse lost his UFC debut to Aleksandre Topuria but has bounced back with two wins since then. Each triumphs got here on the scorecards, but there was some controversy over the most recent.

Volkanovski took to social media after his training partner’s victory at UFC Perth, sharing a clip of when Thicknesse had Morales locked in a triangle choke early within the fight.

‘Slickness’ was unable to complete the submission, but ‘Alexander the Great’ thinks that was all the way down to a referee oversight.

“I knew I seen a faucet!” Volkanovski wrote on X.

Morales addressed Volkanovski’s claim that he was submitted, insisting he didn’t tap out but admitting that he may not have been distant from doing so.

“Definitely didn’t tap. Triangle was tight AF though not gonna lie,” Morales wrote in response.

Fans online have been somewhat split concerning the ‘tap’ in query.

“He tapped his own shoulder. Referee must have been more aware.”

“I’m counting this as a sub win.”

“Does appear to be a faucet.”

“That’s not a faucet. Get your eyeglasses ol’ man.”

“Vince was desirous about it, but I don’t think that was a faucet.”

“You’re the person Volk, but slow the video down… there was no tap.”

Some thought Morales had done enough to earn the win on the judges’ scorecards, but all three scored the prelim fight in favor of the local favorite.

With that, ‘Vandetta’s’ place on the UFC roster could also be in danger. The 35-year-old has now lost 4 outings in a row and his last six under the promotion’s banner.

Between Octagon stints, Morales enjoyed a five-fight winning streak that included championship success in United Fight League.
