The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) secured a dominant victory over their arch-rivals, Mumbai Indians (MI), in Match 44 of IPL 2026 on the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium. In a performance that delighted the house crowd, CSK chased down a goal of 160 with 11 balls to spare, completing a season double over Mumbai.

This important win keeps Chennai’s playoff hopes alive while leaving Mumbai Indians on the point of elimination after their seventh defeat of the season. Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Mumbai Indians struggled to search out a consistent scoring rhythm.

Despite a brisk start from Ryan Rickelton (37 off 24 balls) and a resilient half-century from Naman Dhir (57 off 37 balls), the MI middle order faltered significantly. The CSK bowling attack, led by the discipline of Anshul Kamboj, who claimed 3/32, and the spin guile of Noor Ahmad (2/26), consistently applied the brakes.

A notable highlight was debutant Ramakrishna Ghosh, who picked up the prized wicket of Suryakumar Yadav (21 off 12) for his first IPL scalp. The visitors eventually finished their 20 overs at 159/7, a complete that appeared sub-par on a real Chepauk surface.
