Backstage Update On John Cena’s WWE Schedule Post-Retirement

John Cena can have retired from his in-ring wrestling profession last December, but he’s seemingly been around almost as much as he was before his retirement tour began. Not only was Cena readily available for each nights of WrestleMania 42, hosting WWE’s marquee event, but he can also be scheduled to look at WWE Backlash this weekend, where he has teased unveiling a “history making” bit of reports.

For a lot of, Cena’s two consecutive appearances on WWE PLEs is confusing given Cena’s busy schedule and the assumption he could be less involved with the promotion after retirement. But as Dave Meltzer explained during Monday’s edition of “Wrestling Observer Radio,” Cena’s appearance at WrestleMania, Backlash, and another future events is all by design, and a part of a brand new agreement Cena and WWE reached right after Cena’s final match.

“They signed him to a contract, which called for various appearances,” Meltzer said. “So that is one among those appearances. It was not like…his deal called for these items. So…to me, it’s type of weird since it’s like, he just did WrestleMania. It was purported to be special. And here we’re, a few weeks after WrestleMania, and he’s doing it again.

“So it looks like you are type of, for like a giant guest like that, coming back so quick and having him again, it type of looks like ‘Why would you do it?’ almost. But I feel the mentality is that John Cena is significant, and getting him on TV is significant, and he’s signed for various dates, so…that is one among them. That is it.”
