Seven British people disembarked from the hantavirus-hit ship mid-way through the cruise alongside a lady who later died, it has emerged.
Authorities are looking for 29 individuals who left the ship when it docked within the distant South Atlantic island of St Helena after the primary victim died.
Seven of the passengers are British, six are from the US, three are from the Netherlands, two are from Turkey, two are Canadian and two are Swiss.
There may be also one person each from: Germany, Denmark, Latest Zealand, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Latest Zealand, Sweden and Sigapore.
The nationalities of two other disembarked passengers is unknown.
An Oceanwide Expeditions spokesperson said: ‘We are able to confirm Oceanwide Expeditions can confirm that on 1 April 2026, 114 guests boarded m/v Hondius in Ushuaia, Argentina.
’30 guests disembarked m/v Hondius on Saint Helena on 24 April 2026. This number includes the body of the guest who passed away on board m/v Hondius on 11 April 2026. The primary confirmed case of hantavirus was not reported until 4 May 2026. These disembarked guests have all been contacted by Oceanwide Expeditions.
‘We’re working to determine details of all passengers and crew who embarked and disembarked on various stops of m/v Hondius since March 20.’
