Pep Guardiola insisted Manchester City will ‘do their job’ for the remaining of the Premier League title race as they put pressure on Arsenal with a 3-0 win over Brentford.

Having slipped up on Monday against Everton, Guardiola’s side got back to winning ways with a hard-fought home win over Brentfrod on Saturday.

Jeremy Doku continued his tremendous form with an outstanding strike top open the scoring before Erling Haaland and Omar Marmoush made sure of the result.

City now sit just two points behind Arsenal within the Premier League table, although the Gunners can re-establish a five-point lead with victory over West Ham on Sunday.

But Guardiola warned Arsenal that they need to expect no more slip-ups from his side in the ultimate weeks of the season as they appear to finish a famous domestic treble.

‘Before Everton it was in our hands but now it isn’t, but what we have now to do is our job,’ he told Sky Sports post-match.

‘We didn’t do it perfectly with Everton it was tough. But today we got here back and on Wednesday [we play] Crystal Palace, which is at all times difficult because they’ve extraordinary players and managers. But we are going to do our job and wait.’

Asked if his side still have the spirit to delay the title race, he added: ‘Everton was the actual proof, 3-1 down and emotions. The second half we give away. It happened last season persistently, now we’re more solid but we still give away.

‘That’s football, it happens, it’s the way you react. I’m really pleased for the way in which we have now done it.’

Remaining Premier League fixtures

Arsenal (76 points)

West Ham (A) – May 10

Burnley (H) – May 18

Crystal Palace (A) – May 24

Man City (74 points)

Crystal Palace (H) – May 13

Bournemouth (A) – May 19

Aston Villa (H) – May 24

Guardiola was also keen to praise the performance of Doku, who scored one other superb goal to cap off an outstanding performance and proceed his red-hot form.

‘This season he made an incredible step forward, which players must do to attempt to recover and higher,’ Guardiola said of the Belgian winger.

‘He scored a goal along with his right foot against Everton [to make it] 3-3, but before that the primary goal was his left.

‘Now I actually have the sensation that if he goes there they’ll attempt to block shots and never leave the space to do it and now he needs to be clever to shoot or make an additional pass, and one other player might be free.

‘Everyone knows it, it’s not essential to let you know that he made an incredible step. He said, ‘I’m Jeremy Doku and I’m going to win games’. The best players at all times have this mentality.’
