Former Chelsea defender Jason Cundy has urged the Blues to chop their losses and sell Alejandro Garnacho after his poor first season on the club.

Garnacho arrived at Chelsea last summer for £40million after falling out of favour at Manchester United under Ruben Amorim.

The Argentine had impressed in flashes for the Red Devils but has endured a disappointing first season at Chelsea, scoring only one solitary goal within the Premier League.

Garnacho has began just five league games for the reason that turn of the 12 months, and while under contract until 2031, reports suggest Chelsea are ‘open to offers’ for the 21-year-old.

And Cundy believes Chelsea can be clever to money in on Garnacho as they give the impression of being to lift funds for brand new signings over the summer window.

‘You were buying someone who had a status each good and bad, depending on who you desire to hearken to, but in addition knew the Premier League,’ he told talkSPORT.

‘He infuriates me at times, how his first touch is all the time backwards or sideways.

‘I’d prefer to see him be a bit bit more courageous. We saw Jesse (Derry) make his first start, and I loved the way in which he took (on) the centre-half, the full-back, until he got the top injury.

‘I would like to see Garnacho do this, because he’s a bit predictable at times. So yeah, I feel I’d probably sell.’

Cundy also urged Chelsea to think about selling fellow winger Jamie Gittens, who has seen his maiden season at Stamford Bridge blighted by injury and a scarcity of minutes.

The Englishman joined from Borussia Dortmund last summer, but has recorded just two assists within the league and has not featured since picking up an injury in late January.

‘I don’t understand how many games he’s played but when he’s got to double figures, I can’t remember them,’ Cunday added. ‘I remember the goal within the League Cup away at Wolves.

‘I even have sympathy, he’s had his own injury problems.

‘But I feel those wide areas do need some attention, and he’d be one which I’d make way for that.’

Chelsea are back in motion on the weekend as they tackle Manchester City within the FA Cup final, knowing victory could provide them with a invaluable route into European football for next season.

Callum McFarlane’s side currently sit ninth within the league, 4 points behind Brighton in seventh.
