The Montreal Canadiens were victorious at the top of Game 7, eliminating the Buffalo Sabres in time beyond regulation. Montreal moved on to the Eastern Conference Finals with their win. And it was a history-making goal for forward Alex Newhook, who has been extremely clutch for the Habs this postseason.
Newhook scored the series-clinching goal in Game 7 against the Tampa Bay Lightning. On Monday, he did it again. He scored the time beyond regulation game-winning goal that continued the Canadiens’ playoff run and ended Buffalo’s in a single fell swoop.

After the sport, Newhook spoke to the media about his goal. Suffice it to say, there were quite a lot of emotions running through the Canadiens forward as he spoke with reporters.
“It’s a crazy feeling. Plenty of emotion, obviously,” said Newhook, via NHL.com. “It was a war all series long, and for it to find yourself being Game 7 in time beyond regulation, sometimes it just takes one shot. Coming across the road, I just thought there was a shot opportunity. Great to see it find the back of the web, and there is not any higher feeling than celebrating along with your teammates after a win like that.”
The Canadiens forward was a force all series long. He entered the series with Buffalo having scored once — the aforementioned series-winning goal in Game 7 against the Lightning. Nevertheless, he turned it up against the Sabres, scoring six goals, including five from Games 2 to 4.
If Newhook can proceed this type of form, Montreal will probably be very tough to stop. For now, he and his teammates must begin specializing in the upcoming East Final against the Carolina Hurricanes. The puck drops for Game 1 of that series on Thursday night.
