Mortal Kombat Director Teases Shaolin Monks Remaster

It is a day ending in “Y,” which suggests Mortal Kombat fans are once more wondering when the day will come that they’ll play Shaolin Monks on modern hardware, either via a Remaster, a Remake, or whilst easy as a port. Nevertheless, that day has not yet come, and the title was absent from last 12 months’s Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection.

It doesn’t help, then, that series director Ed Boon is once more teasing a return to Shaolin Monks.

Taking to Twitter, one half of Noob Saibot asked fans whether or not they’d wish to see Shaolin Monks or Mortal Kombat 9 (2011) remastered first.

Up to now, 21,355 votes have been solid with 1 day and 16 hours left on the poll. Perhaps most surprising is the incontrovertible fact that the vote total is rather a lot closer than one would expect, as Shaolin Monks just barely has an edge over MK9, 51 to 49 percent.

After all, that might change in the approaching hours, but given how well-received Mortal Kombat 9 is, and the way it practically saved the franchise, I’d be hard-pressed to consider it’d lose in a landslide.

Shaolin Monks Is On The Minds Of Everyone, Including Mortal Kombat’s Live-Motion Actors

It was only 10 days ago that Max Huang, who plays Kung Lao in the present Mortal Kombat live-action movies, revealed that he would love to see a big-screen adaptation of the enduring spin-off.

“Something that I personally would like to explore could be a Shaolin Monks spin-off,” Huang said in an interview. “Ludi (Lin) has talked about it. I have been talking about it. It might be great to see those two characters’ origins and the way they were raised by Bo’ Rai Cho and trained and exploring the White Lotus. Yeah, the lore of Mortal Kombat is large.”

It also is not the primary time that Shaolin Monks has been brought up by Boon, who teased a return to the spin-off all the best way back in 2022. A 12 months before that, it won a poll for most-requested remastered.

As for MK9, it continues to be lively online to today, and can also be locked to older hardware, so its return could be equally welcomed. Still, few things are as popular to MK fans as Shaolin Monks.
