WWE had a backup plan ready for Jacob Fatu’s match at WWE Clash In Italy, in case his recent injury scare stopped him from wrestling Roman Reigns for the World Heavyweight Championship.
Fatu’s status became a significant concern after he was injured at a recent WWE live event in Liverpool following his match against Solo Sikoa. The Samoan Werewolf was seen limping after the match, which raised serious questions since he’s scheduled to challenge Roman Reigns for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at Clash in Italy.
False Finish is reporting that while WWE still believed that Fatu could be wonderful to work the show, the corporate quietly prepared alternatives in case he was not cleared.
Drew McIntyre was considered one of the names discussed as a possible alternative opponent for Roman Reigns if Fatu couldn’t compete.
This might have been an enormous change, as WWE was not planning to plug in a random or lesser name, but as a substitute considered a former world champion as a backup for considered one of the largest matches on the cardboard.
Reigns vs Fatu has been promoted as considered one of the highest matches for the event, so any doubt around Fatu’s fitness got here at a really bad time. For now, WWE has not announced any change to the scheduled match between Reigns and Fatu.
