Jana Nayagan: Vijay Thalapathy Suggests Makers To Refund Money To Distributors Amid Release Delays

Amid the uncertainty surrounding the discharge of Jana Nayagan, actor-turned-politician Vijay has asked the makers to refund the distributor’s money. The film, which was scheduled for release in January, was delayed as a consequence of CBFC certification issues. Vijay’s alleged final film, Jana Nayagan, continues to face doubts over its release, months after its initial scheduled date. The film, which was expected to hit theatres in January for Pongal, stays stuck with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), awaiting clearance even six months later. As per a recent development, Vijay has reportedly instructed KVN Productions, the production house, to refund the distributors who’ve been waiting for months.

Vijay Asks Jana Nayagan Makers To Refund Money Amid Release Delay

Mohan Suprith, business head of KVN Productions, recently confirmed to SCREEN that the reports about refunds were accurate, stating, “While we’re still in talks, we’ve got decided to refund the cash to the film distributors. We felt it was unfair to maintain them within the loop while we’re still waiting for a possible release date.” Earlier reports indicated that the choice got here directly from Vijay himself, given the film’s prolonged limbo. Moreover, there stays no clarity from either the CBFC or the filmmakers regarding the discharge timeline.

The delay in Jana Nayagan’s release forced distributors to refund crores upfront booking amounts. Trade analyst Ramesh Bala told India Today that Jana Nayagan could have easily earned Rs 150-200 crore in Tamil Nadu alone had it been released on time. He also estimated that the box office could have missed out on nearly Rs 100 crore due to the delay.

About Jana Nayagan Delay

Originally slated for release on January 9, Jana Nayagan was postponed as a consequence of ongoing certification disputes. The film initially received a advice for a UA 16+ certificate from the regional CBFC panel. Nonetheless, the ultimate certification process was halted by legal proceedings, stopping the film from screening in theatres.

In an effort to expedite the method, KVN Productions approached the Madras High Court looking for faster clearance before the scheduled release. Nonetheless, on the day of release, the CBFC challenged a single judge’s ruling before a division bench. The court subsequently stayed the order, forcing the certification process to restart.

In February 2026, the producers withdrew their petition and resubmitted the film through the CBFC’s standard review procedure. Despite the Revising Committee screening the film, certification has yet to be granted. During this delay, the film was also leaked online in HD quality. The discharge timeline for Jana Nayagan stays uncertain.
