Peter Fury believes Tyson Fury should face a meaningful test if he decides to have yet another fight before his planned showdown with Anthony Joshua.
Fury returned to the ring earlier this 12 months after spending all of 2025 in retirement. In April, he outpointed Arslanbek Makhmudov over 12 rounds, and a long-awaited clash with Joshua is now expected later this 12 months.
With some fans questioning whether Fury must have one other fight before meeting Joshua, Peter Fury said there could be little value in a soft touch.
“Well, definitely anyone who’s durable and may hit back, because a walk within the park shouldn’t be achieving anything,” said Peter Fury to talkSPORT Boxing when discussing a possible interim opponent for Tyson.
“The one thing you get out of that may be a ring walk and saying right, I want to get within the ring again, that’s it.”
Peter didn’t mention any specific names, but made it clear he believes any opponent must be able to providing resistance and forcing Fury to remain sharp ahead of the Joshua fight.
The previous heavyweight champion is coming off a unanimous decision victory over Makhmudov in his comeback bout and will return over again before facing Joshua.
Joshua can also be preparing for a return to the ring. The 2-time heavyweight champion is scheduled to face Kristian Prenga on July 25 as he looks to construct momentum toward a possible showdown with Fury.
If Fury does determine to fight before then, Peter Fury’s view is easy: there may be little point in taking up an opponent who offers no challenge.
“A walk within the park shouldn’t be achieving anything,” Peter Fury said. “Definitely anyone who’s durable and may hit back.”
