Major Rumors Regarding CM Punk’s WWE Status Swirling

Despite a wave of online speculation surrounding CM Punk’s recent absence from WWE television, Fightful is reporting that not one of the circulating rumors have been substantiated.

Over the past two months, several theories have surfaced regarding Punk’s status with WWE. Amongst essentially the most widespread claims were suggestions that Punk had turn out to be unhappy with the corporate and was searching for a way out of his contract. Some rumors alleged that he was frustrated with WWE’s handling of AJ Lee, while others referenced a supposed backstage incident around WrestleMania 42 weekend.

Considered one of the stories making the rounds claimed that Punk had heat following an incident involving a fan at WrestleMania 42, during which he knocked a phone out of a fan’s hand after the person allegedly harassed AJ Lee and Bayley. Nevertheless, there was never any significant backstage backlash toward Punk stemming from that situation.

One other rumor suggested that Punk pushed for a particular creative direction at WrestleMania 42 and drew negative attention from TKO executives in consequence.

Fightful says it investigated each of those claims but was unable to confirm any of them. Sources inside WWE reportedly had not heard that Punk wanted out of his deal, nor had they heard anything regarding a requested pay cut.

In response to one WWE source, Punk’s absence has not been disciplinary in nature. The source indicated that a brand new storyline involving Punk is predicted within the near future, with merchandise currently being produced and summer appearances already planned.

As for AJ Lee, she will not be currently a part of WWE’s immediate plans, though that would change. Sources noted that Lee was never intended to return as a full-time performer and that her comeback run unfolded largely as planned from the outset. Multiple individuals who worked directly with Lee reportedly denied hearing of any backstage issues or sudden creative changes involving her.

Fightful also addressed speculation stemming from a social media post that claimed Punk seemed to be saying goodbye to fans through the RAW after WrestleMania 42. Sources indicated that was not the case.

Notably, even WWE personnel who’ve historically not been supportive of Punk said that they had heard nothing regarding the rumors or any desire on his part to go away the corporate. If there may be any truth to the speculation, it has not spread amongst WWE talent or staff.

Regarding the opportunity of Punk ever returning to AEW, some inside the wrestling industry have long believed relationships could eventually be repaired, even when he never wrestles for the promotion again. When asked whether Punk had permanently burned bridges with AEW, one source reportedly responded with a well-known phrase – “Never say never.”
