Teen batting prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi endured a transient stay on the crease on his India A debut, scoring 14 runs from 12 balls within the opening match of the 2026 tri-series against Sri Lanka A in Dambulla on Tuesday, June 9. The 15-year-old earned his maiden India A call-up during an excellent IPL 2026 season with Rajasthan Royals.
Opening the innings alongside Prabhsimran Singh after captain Tilak Varma selected to bat first, the left-hander began confidently with elegant boundaries through the off-side. He struck one other 4 within the very next delivery, quickly finding momentum and unsettling the Sri Lankan bowlers.
Suryavanshi continued aggressively with one other boundary in the next over, but Chamika Karunaratne cleverly mixed cutters and slower bouncers to hassle the teen. After struggling against the variations, he eventually attempted an attacking shot against Mohammad Shiraz and lost his wicket.
The left-hander attempted to loft the complete delivery over the mid-off region but didn’t get enough height on the shot, allowing the fielder contained in the circle to come back into motion. Sahan Arachchige charged in from mid-off and accomplished an excellent low diving catch just inches above the bottom.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi looked dissatisfied as he made his way back to the pavilion after handing Sri Lanka A an early wicket. Soon after, opening partner Prabhsimran Singh also departed, reducing India A to 16/2 contained in the fifth over.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi Has Played Just 8 List A Matches In His Profession
The young batting prodigy’s strong T20 performances within the IPL have been widely noticed, but his exposure in List A cricket stays limited, with just eight matches played since his debut for Bihar within the Vijay Hazare Trophy in December 2024.
Before making his India A debut, his most up-to-date List A outing got here within the 2025–26 Vijay Hazare Trophy, where he played a quickfire knock of 31 runs off just 10 balls against Meghalaya.
