Ian Machado Garry has been waiting patiently for his shot on the welterweight title.

Machado Garry was finally confirmed to be facing Islam Makhachev for the belt last week.

Each men fought only one week apart last November to establish this clash where Machado Garry believes he’ll deny Makhachev the possibility to make history by extending his win streak.

Despite there being a number of discuss who the Russian’s first title challenger can be, the Irishman was all the time confident despite some delays that he blames on the champion.

Ian Machado Garry claims Islam Makhachev turned fights down in May and June

Islam Makhachev has denied Dana White’s claim that an injury stopped him from making his return on the White House event earlier this month.

Ian Machado Garry, however, says that he knows for a undeniable fact that the welterweight champion turned down not less than one fight.

He said on The Ariel Helwani Show that he was told as early as January that he’d be next for Makhachev before explaining why it has taken so long for the fight to be booked.

“There was talks about April, then there was an official offer put out May 9 to which he turned down for Newark… It was no, no, no. They spoke to me about they needed to do their due diligence and placed on certainly one of the most important fights they possibly could which was Ilia [Topuria] vs Islam on the White House. Islam turned it all the way down to my knowledge, from what I’ve been told and here we’re.”

Machado Garry said that he also pitched the concept of difficult for the title on International Fight Week but was told by the UFC that they already had this planned out.

With Conor McGregor headlining that card, his fellow Irishman said that the promotion told him that he deserved to be in a fundamental event as a substitute of competing underneath ‘The Notorious’.

There have been mixed messages from either side as to why Makhachev and Topuria didn’t find yourself meeting on the White House in an excellent fight.

Just before the cardboard took place, Makhachev said that Topuria wanted around $20 million to compete on this matchup, which the UFC turned down.
