Joe Rogan reacts to Ciryl Gane being called out for his ‘illegal shots’ against Alex Pereira at UFC Freedom 250

Ciryl Gane has been accused of ‘illegally’ striking Alex Pereira within the build-up to his forced stoppage victory over his heavyweight opponent at UFC Freedom 250.

Referee Herb Dean didn’t intervene throughout the second round after Gane overpowered Pereira and proceeded to strike him on the back of the pinnacle.

Speaking on his podcast, UFC legend Joe Rogan even identified that he saw an “illegal shot” from Gane during his fight with Pereira for the interim championship.

“And even like feinting takedowns, it’s not like he committed to those, but he’s got him fascinated by it,” he said on The Joe Rogan Experience.

“Look how he drops him with the jab. Now here’s the query, because one in every of the things that Pereira is saying is a whole lot of – there’s an illegal shot.”

Joe Rogan defends Ciryl Gane and claims the UFC star’s shots weren’t intentional against Alex Pereira

Gane has now put himself well and truly within the heavyweight title picture for a second encounter with UFC champion Tom Aspinall after his win over Pereira.

Rogan added that he felt that the “movement and chaos” in Gane’s clash with Pereira meant that a number of the Frenchman’s controversial shots were unavoidable.

“Lots of the shots were illegal and to the back of the pinnacle,” he continued.

“But a whole lot of them were to the side of the pinnacle, and so they’re also moving. It’s a two-inch line down like a mohawk.

“A few those shots definitely landed illegally, but there’s also movement. It’s also movement and chaos. It’s not like he’s attempting to [do that] deliberately.”

Gane’s first clash with heavyweight kingpin Tom Aspinall ended after one round in 2025 after the UFC 321 clash was deemed a ‘no-contest’ following an eye fixed poke.
