‘I would like some help’… Dustin Poirier releases statement after arrest video goes public

Dustin Poirier has spoken out in a social media update after footage of his arrest went viral on social media.

Former UFC lightweight and BMF title contender Poirier was arrested in Atlanta on Sunday night for public intoxication. He made a temporary statement within the aftermath, telling fans on social media that he can be ‘working on himself’.

Now, he has given a more in-depth message to his followers, admitting that he’s struggling at times to deal together with his recent life since giving up fighting. This has been a theme in recent interviews for Poirier, who retired after being defeated by Max Holloway at UFC 318 last yr.

After footage of his arrest went public, Dustin Poirier took to Instagram to send an update to his nearly 6 million followers. He noted that his family has a history with alcohol, and declared that he now’s searching for help for his issues.

“I’m at the purpose where I would like some help,” Poirier wrote. “Walking away from fighting hasn’t been easy on me and alcohol isn’t the reply. It has ruined my father’s life and I is not going to allow it to spoil mine, my family deserve me at 100%. I’m attempting to do every part I can to get my mind right and take the correct next steps.”

After being refused boarding on a Delta Airlines flight this Sunday, Poirier was charged with public intoxication when he was taken into custody and transported to Clayton County Jail. He was released from custody just a few hours later.
