Conor McGregor admits to creating ‘mistakes’ before return

In lower than a couple of weeks, on Jul. 11, 2026, Conor McGregor is about to make his much-awaited UFC comeback. Returning to the octagon after almost five years, McGregor is scheduled to face longtime rival Max Holloway.

The stalwarts will compete against one another within the foremost event of UFC 329 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Coming back from a broken tibia injury, McGregor recently opened as much as CBS’ Nate Burleson in an interview, where he admitted to making sure mistakes before his return.

McGregor reflected on the absence that kept him out of competition for nearly five years and in addition accepted the criticisms geared toward him. “It’s probably accurate at moments obviously,” McGregor said while addressing the suggestions that he had lost his passion. “At 27 years of age, I had the sport conquered. Two-weight world champion. I had the Floyd bout boxed off. I used to be only 27 years of age. I had the sport wrapped up in a blink, and what more was I to do? I got lost.”

McGregor’s latest fight was a TKO loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021, when he suffered a broken tibia in the primary round, his second consecutive defeat to Poirier, and his third loss in his last 4 bouts.

The years that followed saw him involved in a failed Irish presidential campaign and multiple legal matters. “I made some mistakes off of that, and that is it,” he said. “But you may all the time come home. Should you truly love something, you may all the time come home. And that is what happened to me.

“There could also be pockets where I might have disrespected and disgraced the position that God had put me in,” he further added. “Perhaps some fans would see that. Perhaps he showed no love for the sport. It’s probably accurate. It’s accurate, in truth.”
