Backstage Update – Nick Aldis’ WWE Future

Nick Aldis may very well be on the verge of creating his long-awaited return to the ring, as a brand new report indicates that WWE is seriously considering an in-ring feud between the SmackDown General Manager and GUNTHER.

The storyline began on this week’s episode of WWE RAW, where Aldis was announced as being placed on “administrative leave” following a heated backstage confrontation with GUNTHER throughout the WWE Night of Champions 2026 post-show.

In the course of the altercation, GUNTHER confronted Aldis over Sami Zayn being added to the Undisputed WWE Championship match, accusing the WWE official of intentionally attempting to sabotage him out of jealousy. The exchange quickly turned physical before other officials stepped in to separate the 2.

In keeping with a report from WrestleVotes Radio, there have been “significant” internal discussions inside WWE about turning the angle right into a full-fledged in-ring program between GUNTHER and Aldis. If it happens, it will mark Aldis’ first match since 2023.

The report adds that WWE has previously explored bringing Aldis back to lively competition. One earlier idea reportedly involved a feud with Solo Sikoa in 2025, while a rivalry with GUNTHER had also been discussed internally before the present storyline took shape.

As things currently stand, the expectation is that if the angle results in a match, Aldis himself would step into the ring against GUNTHER reasonably than choosing one other wrestler to represent him.
