The Dallas Stars and Jason Robertson don’t look like any closer
The Sheet with Jeff Marek: David Pagnotta and Marek discuss the Dallas Stars, Jason Robertson situation heading into the weekend.
Marek: “Where, from what you’ve been in a position to glean, where do you think that things are at with Robertson and the Dallas Stars? Because for all, for everybody who thought that, you recognize, attaching (Ilya) Lyubushkin’s contract to Mavrik Bourque in Nashville was going to get the Jason Robertson deal done, not so fast. Two sides are locked.”
Pagnotta: “Yeah, I got the update while Irf and I were doing a fast recap on things for the Insider Edition, and my query was to this individual near the situation: Have, has there been any traction within the last little bit here. Are you anywhere closer?”
Leo Carlsson’s Offer Sheet is $5-6 Million More Than the Anaheim Geese Last Offer
Marek: “No. No.”
Pagnotta: “That was the precise answer.”
Marek: “No.”
Pagnotta: “Two letters, one word. No. I’m not, that is one other interesting one. Like, there have been teams beforehand, speaking of offer sheets. There have been teams before this that we even got to July one, before we got to the draft, that were contemplating, should we go after Jason Robertson on a suggestion sheet 15 plus. And I believe they’re still into account.
And I consider that I consider some teams have reached out and had conversations. Now, I don’t, I don’t know if a suggestion sheet has been presented, and we, we won’t know until a) any person reveals it, team or player slash agent; and b) can be, if he actually accepts one and signs it.
So, but there are teams which have reached out to a minimum of, the very least, understand where things are at on that front. And so they must contemplate, identical to some teams are doing with Leo Carlsson (signed a suggestion sheet with Philadelphia), and I’m sure others, they’re debating internally whether or not they’ll go after him at 15 plus. And I believe the inquiries are more attempting to gauge would he want to do this here, based on obviously what happened with Seattle.
Marek: “I used to be going to say, yet he had that in Seattle, and said ‘No.’ Like that to me, is sort of a shoo, go away. We’re not, we’re not there. Like we’ve said all along. I believe you and I are each on the identical page. He desires to be in Dallas, but he desires to be in Dallas on his terms. Period.”
Pagnotta: “Yes.”
Marek: “That’s, That’s where he desires to be, and I do know that there are some players which are miffed by it. I do know players have reached out to him and tried to discuss with him concerning the situation.
I’ll take it a step further. I do know that there are some those who aren’t exactly thrilled with social media pictures of being on the World Cup, and here’s me golfing and all this, while Jim Nill and Tom Galardi are having, like, an existential crisis concerning the Dallas Stars. I don’t think that’s going over thoroughly either with the organization, to be blunt.”
NHL Rumors: LA Kings, Vancouver Canucks, and the Dallas Stars
Pagnotta: “No, no, they’re not overly thrilled. And you recognize, we thought on July one which, okay, they’re back on the negotiating table, perhaps some, perhaps someone’s finally going to bend just a little bit, and we’re a pair days later, we’re still waiting. And as of last night, you said it, no, there’s been no traction on that front, so unless something happens today, or over the weekend. Or you recognize, the longer this goes, the larger the chance of the offer sheet actually comes into play, even with him wanting to be there.”
Marek: “Yes.”
