PLDT INC. has expanded its rural connectivity program with the activation of 11 recent fourth-generation (4G) long-term evolution (LTE) sites in Bohol, because the telecommunications company (telco) continues its nationwide network rollout in underserved areas.

In an announcement on Monday, PLDT said the brand new sites were activated within the municipalities of Maribojoc and Antequera to boost mobile connectivity for Smart Communications, Inc. and its value brand TNT.

The rollout forms a part of PLDT’s goal to deploy about 3,500 sites under its rural connectivity expansion program, including in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDAs), in coordination with government agencies.

“As a telco company, our mission is to attach every Filipino. We would like places like Antequera and Maribojoc to be more visible, not only across Bohol, but to the remaining of the country and the world. We hope residents profit from these recent cell sites,” Smart First Vice-President and Head of Wireless Network Debbie M. Hu said.

PLDT said the brand new sites are expected to enhance connectivity for residents while supporting economic activities, education, tourism, and disaster resilience within the two municipalities.

The corporate said it is constant to expand web access in underserved and distant areas through coordination with the Department of Information and Communications Technology, the Department of Education, and the Department of the Interior and Local Government.

PLDT shares fell 0.85%, or P10, to shut at P1,161 each on Monday.
