Brandy encouraged her fans to be “gentler with each other” in an empowering post about body positivity.
“I’ve learned that it takes only a moment to form an opinion about someone’s appearance, and a lifetime to grasp what they’ve lived through,” the Cinderella star, 47, wrote to her Instagram followers on Saturday, July 11.”So may we grow to be gentler with each other. Not because everyone seems to be fragile, but because everyone seems to be carrying a story we cannot see.”
Her open letter began with a mirrored image on what “beauty” actually means within the age of social media.
“Perhaps we’ve been in search of it in all of the improper places. In youth. In perfection. In approval. In bodies that never change and faces that never age,” she explained. “But life was never meant to go away us untouched. It shapes us. It humbles us. It refines us. Every season leaves its signature upon us. And perhaps that’s where beauty has been all along. Not in escaping change, but in becoming through it.”
The “Boy Is Mine” singer — who shares daughter Sy’rai, 24, with ex Robert “Big Bert” Smith — advised fans that “the world will at all times be tempted to measure people by what’s visible.”
“But love has never looked only on the surface. Love sees the entire person,” she wrote. “I’ve stopped attempting to earn my reflection. I’ve stopped asking the mirror to inform me who I’m. I do know who I’m. And that knowing has given me a freedom no opinion could ever take away.”
Brandy wrapped up her post by expressing hope that her thoughtful words would go away an impression on potential body-shamers.
“Before you discuss someone’s body, before you discuss someone’s face, before you choose who they’re by what you see, remember, you’re looking at someone’s child. Someone’s friend. Someone’s dream. Someone’s life. A soul,” she concluded. “And souls have at all times been more beautiful than surfaces.”
Brandy also shared a carousel of stunning photos of her wearing a wholly gold ensemble, including a netted coverup and hoop earrings.

Her post got here several months after Brandy abruptly ended a performance in Chicago on October 18, 2025, during her coheadlining The Boy Is Mine Tour with fellow singer Monica. She later spoke out to guarantee fans that she was feeling higher before returning to the stage the next night.
“I sincerely apologize for the abrupt end to last night’s performance in Chicago. After weeks of nonstop rehearsals, last night I experienced dehydration and feelings of wanting to faint,” she explained via Instagram. “Everyone involved agreed that prioritizing my well-being was of the utmost importance.”
The pop star went on, “I still made the choice to try to return and provides it my all despite not feeling okay. With having to make some adjustments and the show being very technical, unfortunately, it was not possible to totally connect sonically with the production. I actually appreciate everyone’s best efforts.”
In March, Brandy celebrated a much happier occasion when she was honored by comedian Issa Rae and producer Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds while receiving a prestigious star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
