Success rarely comes overnight, and actor Akash Makhija knows that higher than most. Opening up about his long and difficult journey within the entertainment industry, the actor candidly recalled facing countless rejections. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Bubble, Akash said he battled self-doubt and endured years of uncertainty before finally finding recognition. Akash Makhija Reveals How Rejections Trained Him To Be A Higher Actor
When asked about facing rejections and coping with them, Akash Makhija said, “Yaar, difficult toh hota hai. Aur I feel ek actor ki life mein yeh roz hota hai. Woh roz auditions pe jaata hai aur aadhe auditions toh usse dene bhi nahi milte. Woh ‘not fit’ ho jaata hai. I remember jab 2011-12 mein important auditions de raha tha, tab field thodi alag thi. It was more look-based at the moment. Agar kisi TV serial mein kaam karna hai toh ek specific dhaancha tha — waise hi aapko hona chahiye. Movies toh door-door tak hum imagine bhi nahi kar paate the ki kisi bade production house mein kabhi entry ho paayegi.”
He continued, “Roz rejections hote the. Kabhi bolte the, ‘Hum specific type ke baal dhoondh rahe hain.’ Kabhi bolte the, ‘Skin clear chahiye, kyunki brand waisa hai.’ Ab ek 18 saal ka bachcha jab yeh sab sunega, toh rejection toh alag baat hai, uske zehen mein kitni cheezein bhar jaati hain — ki important aisa nahi dikhta, mujhe shayad aise accept nahi kiya jayega. It was very difficult at the moment.”
Akash Travelled From Kalyan To Bandra
The actor revealed, “Most important roz Kalyan se Bandra college jaata tha. I used to be in National College, pursuing my Bachelor’s in Mass Media. Wahan se Andheri jaana aur raat ko ghar wapas aana after getting rejected in all of the auditions. Phir ghar aake bolna ki audition achha gaya, kyunki unko nahi bata sakta tha ki reject ho gaya hoon. Woh bolte, ‘Tu kyun jaa raha hai agar aisa hi ho raha hai?’ At times, you’re not even comfortable telling your parents about your struggle since you don’t want to present them the pain that you just’re going through.”
Akash Reveals The Most Bizarre Reason To Face Rejection
Akash added, “Dheere-dheere samajh aaya ki mujhe sirf unhi auditions mein jaana chahiye jahan important fit hota hoon. But again, at times you get rejected for the best way you look. At times you get rejected because another person is more famous. At times you get rejected for reasons which can be completely out of your control. I remember getting rejected for a show because mera horoscope us show se match nahi kar raha tha. I also remember being released from a project because suddenly a creative change aa gaya. Unhone bola ki interval ke baad character ki shaadi dikhani hai, lekin yeh ladka utna bada nahi lag raha.”
The actor added, “Agar us time mujhe pata hota ki kuch aisa aane mein 14 saal lagenge, toh shayad important chhod chuka hota. I used to be 18 at the moment. Agar aaj aap kisi 18 saal ke bachche ko bolo ki 14 saal baad result milega, toh he won’t ever do it. Perhaps someone like me immediately has that wisdom and level of patience, but uss waqt toh nahi hota. Uss waqt lagta hai ki result abhi chahiye. Lekin har project — chahe ek chhota ad ho, episodic show ho, Gumrah ho, kisi channel ka weekly show ho ya Crime Patrol — har show ne mujhe ek aur saal sustain karne ki hope di. Lagta tha ki nahi yaar, yahan se kuch hoga.”
Akash Says Credits His Patience For Raakh’s Success
He concluded, “So, I feel being hopeful is sweet. But at the identical time, sabse badi cheez jo maine seekhi woh yeh hai ki is field mein patience bahut zaroori hai. Aur street smart hona bhi bahut zaroori hai, because kaam maangna bhi ek kaam hai. Woh kala maine seekhi. Mera koi uncle, mama ya chacha industry mein nahi tha jisse important bol sakta tha ki please mera kaam karwa do. Jab insaan ke paas koi aur raasta nahi hota, toh woh wahi raasta select karta hai jo uske paas available hota hai. Maine bhi wahi kiya, aur important thankful hoon ki maine himmat nahi haari. Aur aakhirkaar woh kaam kar gaya.”
