Max Holloway wanted his fight with Conor McGregor called off even before the 69 second mark, however the Irishman wouldn’t allow it.
Almost immediately into the UFC 329 essential event, McGregor sprinted across the octagon and threw an outlandish high kick. He looked as if it would land awkwardly on his right leg, and ended up on his back without Holloway even landing a punch.
What’s next for Conor McGregor after UFC 329?
‘Notorious’ suffered a serious knee injury moments into his comeback fight against Max Holloway.

Max Holloway says Conor McGregor wanted fight to proceed at UFC 329
Conor McGregor has spoken out after UFC 329, declaring that he was not injured heading into the bout despite fans questioning a few of his pre-fight behavior retroactively. Max Holloway even claims that he tried to proceed from his back when he initially hurt his leg.
Having suffered an identical injury of their first bout 13 years ago, the Irishman likely felt he could overcome once the fight got to the bottom. Holloway clearly learned from his mistakes, though, and made his rival get back on the feet, where he had to confess defeat.
“I had the person weak on the knees, I suppose,” Holloway joked while talking to the media after the event. “All jokes aside I just hope he’s good. I do know Conor has been battling some stuff, it looked like he’s really been changing, he found God.
“He had his kids there, so in the course of the fight you could possibly obviously tell his demeanour modified. I used to be attempting to tell the ref sooner ‘this guy’s kids are within the front row, I don’t wish to see this guy take unnecessary damage’.
“I attempted to stop the fight but that is how crazy Conor is; the primary time he was on the bottom I punched him and he’s like ‘fight, fight’. I used to be like ‘okay, rise up then, let’s fight’ and I backed up. Then he fell back down and the fight was called.”
